Bio

Dr. Judy Mirick seves as the Faculty Athletic Representative and s a Professor of Physics and Physical Science at Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC). She holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from Clemson University, with specializations in Physics and Curriculum & Instruction for secondary science and math education. With over 25 years of teaching experience, Dr. Mirick has taught science at both the secondary and collegiate levels, including previous positions at Andrew College in Georgia and the Marlborough School, a private school in Los Angeles.

Since joining SMC in 2019, Dr. Mirick has become a cornerstone of the science department, teaching courses such as General Physics, Physical Science, and Introduction to Astronomy. Her approach to teaching is both dynamic and inclusive, making complex scientific concepts accessible to students of varying academic backgrounds. She is widely appreciated for her engaging instruction and her dedication to student success.

Dr. Mirick’s excellence has been recognized through several prestigious awards. In 2024, she received the SCICU Excellence in Teaching Award, and in 2021, she was honored with the Huff Faculty Award at SMC for outstanding teaching and professional excellence. Beyond the classroom, she plays a vibrant role in campus life—participating in student orientation, enrollment events, and faculty support initiatives such as the C‑Cubed group.
