Tucker Simon Has Career Best Round and Finish to Lead SMC Men's Golf
Competing in an unusual 36-hole, single-day format, the Pioneers rose to the challenge, posting a team score of 605 (303-302). Walters State CC claimed the team title with a 592 (295-297), edging AAC member Montreat by three strokes. Aidan Sinclair of host Milligan earned individual medalist honors with a 143 (-1, 74-69), winning by two strokes.
The Pioneers were led by Tucker Simon, who turned in the best tournament of his career, finishing tied for fourth with a 36-hole total of 147 (73-74). The sophomore from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, recorded a career-best 73 in the opening round and totaled six birdies across his two rounds to lead SMC.
Kendall Howle followed, tying for 11th with a 149 (+5, 77-72), highlighted by a team-best 72 in the second round along with five birdies. Evan Cheek placed in a tie for 24th with a 154 (+10, 76-78), recording three birdies over 36 holes.
Thomas Campbell finished tied for 27th with a 155 (+11, 77-78) and added five birdies, while AJ Bolin rounded out the lineup with a tie for 38th at 158 (+14, 79-79) with four birdies.
Competing as an individual, Parker Harrigan tied for 36th with a 157 (+13, 77-80).
The Pioneers will next compete at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships, scheduled for April 20-21 at Barnsley Resort in Adairsville, Georgia.
