KINGSPORT, Tenn. – No. 8 seed Spartanburg Methodist College saw its season come to an end with a 25-21, 25-23, 25-16 loss to No. 9 seed Bluefield in the opening round of the AAC Tournament on Thursday.
Bluefield (12-13) was led by the one-two punch of Rachel Sasson and Ella Gwellek, who posted 13 and 11 kills, respectively. The Rams recorded 14 service aces — including eight from Eledy Torres — in the victory.
Spartanburg Methodist College (13-20) was paced by Second Team All-AAC selection Braelynn Brewington, who tallied six kills, five block assists, and a .500 hitting percentage for the Pioneers. Setter Brook Noe contributed seven of the team's 10 service aces, while Leilani Campbell added four block assists in the loss.
With the win, Bluefield advances in the AAC Tournament to face No. 1 seed Columbia International on Friday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m.
