Freshmen Lead Record-Setting Day for SMC Women at Tyron Invitational
Spartanburg Methodist College women's track and field set two individual school records to lead the Pioneers at the Tyron Invitational - Banked Invitational.
A pair of freshmen set new marks for SMC. In the shot put, McKensley Parks broke her own school record with a toss of 33-5.25 (10.19m), improving her previous mark by 2.75 inches.
The other record-setting performance came from freshman Eva Sapp, who set a new mark in the 300-meter dash with a time of 45.19. Teammates sophomore Da'Sani Kinlaw (45.53) and sophomore Tieranny Jeter (47.21) posted the second- and third-fastest times, respectively.
Freshman Gabby Jarvis also set a personal best in the 1000-meter run, finishing in 3:49.99 — nearly 22 seconds faster than her previous best. Another personal record came from freshman Carson Byrd in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 28.69.
The Pioneers return to action Friday, Feb. 6, at the Camel City Sprints in Winston-Salem, N.C., at JDL Fast Track — the site of the upcoming AAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
