Team Effort Fuels Four-Set Victory Over Bryan
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Three Pioneers recorded double-digit kills as Spartanburg Methodist College defeated Bryan College, 25-15, 25-20, 21-25, 25-17, on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers (12-16, 7-8 AAC) delivered a balanced team effort, hitting .290 for the match. Hana Vucinic posted a double-double with 16 kills, 11 digs, and four service aces while hitting .379. Braelynn Brewington added 15 kills and hit an impressive .619 to go along with four blocks (two solos, two assists). Kendall Meinders also reached double figures with 10 kills and two block assists.
Setters Brook Noe and Tristan Craine efficiently ran the offense, tallying 29 and 21 assists, respectively. As a team, SMC totaled eight service aces and seven blocks in the win.
Bryan (2-30, 1-14 AAC) was led by Shelby Kelly, who recorded 13 kills and hit .158. The Lions finished with five service aces, six blocks, and a .133 hitting percentage.
Head coach Makayla Holcombe praised her team's execution and energy in the win. "I'm really proud of how our team responded today," Holcombe said. "We've been emphasizing consistency and confidence, and it showed in every aspect of our game. From our serve pressure to our offensive balance, this was one of our most complete performances of the season."
Next up, the Pioneers will travel to Columbia International University on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. matchup. The Rams took the previous meeting on September 23 in Spartanburg in four sets.
