Teasley Scores 17 as Pioneers Drop Hall of Fame Classic Opener to Florida Memorial

HUNTINGTON, Ind. — Spartanburg Methodist College men's basketball held Florida Memorial to just 36.4% shooting, but the Lions capitalized at the free-throw line, making 21 of 32 attempts on their way to a 67-58 victory Friday night. The matchup marked the first of two games for the Pioneers at the Ness Brothers Hall of Fame Classic in Huntington, Indiana.

SMC (0-3) was led by a game-high 17 points from Kelton Teasley, while Musa Muriithi added 11. Caleb Jenkins contributed four points, five rebounds, and five steals, and Tavarez Lacey finished with nine points and eight boards.

Florida Memorial (1-1) was paced by Jeffery Seiden, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Devin Carter came off the bench to score 13 points, and Sehmaj Mentor added 12 as part of a balanced Lions attack.

FMU opened the game with a 7-0 run before the Pioneers responded with an 11-2 stretch to take an 11-9 lead after CJ Terrell sank three straight free throws with 15:37 remaining in the first half. The Lions answered quickly with six consecutive points to regain control. A jumper by Calvin Brown trimmed the deficit to 16-15 with 10:22 to go, but an 11-3 FMU run pushed the lead back out and kept the Lions in front for the remainder of the contest.

The Pioneers will wrap up play in the tournament on Saturday, taking on host Huntington University at 3 p.m.
