SMC Volleyball Drops Road Match to Pikeville
PIKEVILLE, KY – The Spartanburg Methodist College volleyball team dropped a 25-17, 25-12, 25-21 decision to host Pikeville in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Friday night.
The host Bears (11-11, 8-3 AAC) hit .314 with just 12 attack errors in the straight-set win over the visiting Pioneers. Theresa Romero led UPIKE with 10 kills and a .444 hitting percentage, while the team totaled five blocks and eight service aces in the victory.
"Tough match tonight," said head coach Makayla Holcombe. "We didn't quite execute the way we needed to on our side of the court, but every challenge is a chance to learn and grow. We'll regroup, make the necessary adjustments, and be ready to compete in our quick turnaround against Bluefield tomorrow."
The Pioneers (9-15, 4-7 AAC) had a balanced attack, led by Makinnley Smart with eight kills and three blocks. Kendall Meinders added seven kills and two blocks, while Hana Vucinic anchored the defense with 10 digs. Tristan Craine and Brook Noe handed out 13 and 12 assists, respectively.
