SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The four senior members of the Spartanburg Methodist College women's soccer team — Kaylee Damsen, Abby Fisher, Laura Giraldo, and Caitlin Lagos — were recognized at halftime of Tuesday's matchup against Columbia College.
The match carried significant weight for the Pioneers in their pursuit of a berth in the upcoming Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament. SMC made the night even more memorable, sending off its seniors with a 2-0 victory over the visiting Koalas.
All four seniors earned a spot in the starting lineup — including Damsen and Fisher, who both made their first appearances of 2025 after recovering from injuries. Inspired by their presence, the Pioneers created early pressure. A scramble in front of the box found the feet of Lagos, who slotted it past the Koalas' keeper to give SMC a 1-0 lead.
Following the senior recognition at halftime, the Pioneers extended their advantage early in the second half when Camila Moscoso netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Ava Wilson anchored the SMC defense, recording six saves to secure her fifth shutout of the year.
The Pioneers will close out the regular season on Saturday, October 25, when they travel to face Truett McConnell at 1 p.m.
