The Spartanburg Methodist College softball team dropped a doubleheader to AAC leader Reinhardt, 3-1 in game one and 6-0 in game two, on Wednesday.
The Pioneers (25-11, 8-9 AAC) battled the league leaders throughout the doubleheader despite coming up short on the scoreboard.
In game one, SMC leadoff batter Alex Stuckey paced the offense with two of the team's four hits. A sacrifice fly by Carson McCowan in the sixth inning accounted for the lone run for the visitors.
Host Reinhardt scored one run each in the second, third, and sixth innings to support Eagles pitcher Ansley Pettit, who struck out five in the winning effort. Ainsley Hight, Molly Stevens, and Hallee Shirley each recorded two hits to lead RU.
In game two, Reinhardt stretched a 1-0 lead with a four-run fifth inning en route to a 6-0 win.
Jacie Ross, Adriana Stump-Frias, and Gracie Starnes each recorded a hit in the loss for the Pioneers.
Next, the Pioneers return home for a six-game homestand, consisting of three doubleheaders, beginning Friday, April 10 at 1 p.m. against Truett McConnell.
