Pioneers Win Island Pointe Intercollegiate; Cheek Claims Individual Title
The Spartanburg Methodist College men's golf team picked up its second tournament title of the season, winning the 2nd Annual Island Pointe Intercollegiate on Friday.
The Pioneers did it in convincing fashion, claiming a 15-stroke victory with a 612 (304–308), finishing ahead of runner-up William Penn in the 17-team field. SMC also fielded a "B" team that finished third with a 633 (318–315).
SMC also took home the individual title as Evan Cheek captured his third tournament win with a 147 (+3, 72–75), earning a one-stroke victory.
Teammate Thomas Campbell climbed 10 spots on the leaderboard with an even-par final round for a total of 149 (+5, 77–72) on his way to a third-place finish.
Also competing on the "A" squad was Tucker Simon, who shared 18th place with a 159 (+15, 76–83). Rounding out the "A" team, Kendall Howle and Antonio Montenora shared 23rd place with a 160 (+16).
The "B" team was led by AJ Bolin, who shared fourth place with a 152 (+8, 76–76). Parker Harrigan tied for 10th with a 155 (+11, 79–76), followed by Bryson Paris, who finished 28th with a 161 (+17, 79–82).
The next two Pioneers, Jackson Welch and Andrew Walker, shared 40th place after each posting a 166 (+22).
