SMC Baseball Sweeps Union Commonwealth Behind Extra-Inning Thriller and Strong All-Around Team Effort

The Pioneers (22–21, 14–10 AAC) opened the day with a marathon victory, pushing across the decisive run in the 11th inning. Elijah Franz led off with a single, moved to third on a Blake Exizian single, and scored on a Tanner Martin sacrifice fly—his third RBI of the game—to secure the win.

SMC finished game one with 15 hits, led by Franz and Kohen Bridges with three apiece. Exizian, Martin, Dario Astudillo, and Brady Jeffcoat also contributed offensively. Reliever Nicky White earned the win, working five strong innings with two hits allowed and two strikeouts to improve to 3–1.

The momentum carried into game two as SMC out-hit Union Commonwealth 12–4 in a 5–3 victory to complete the sweep. Exizian again led the offense with three hits, while Jeffcoat, Franz, Astudillo, and Bridges each added two hits. Jeffcoat drove in two runs.

On the mound, Miles Corcoran delivered one of his strongest outings of the season, allowing three hits and three earned runs while striking out six over nearly a complete game to improve to 2–1. Luke Hartig closed out the final inning, allowing one hit.

SMC built an early 3–0 lead with RBI doubles from Franz and Exizian in the first, followed by RBI singles from Bridges and Jeffcoat in the second. The Pioneers added runs in the fifth and sixth innings before holding off a late Union rally.

Next, SMC will travel to face nationally ranked Georgia Gwinnett on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
