Pioneers Close Fall Season with Fourth-Place Finish at AAC Fall Showcase
ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. – In a field featuring four nationally ranked teams, the Spartanburg Methodist College men's golf team finished fourth at the AAC Fall Showcase, posting a 36-hole total of 626.
"I'm proud of how our guys competed this week, especially against a strong field," said SMC head coach Kevin Cotrell. "We've continued to make progress each tournament this fall, and this event showed the depth and potential of our young lineup. This gives us a lot to build on heading into the spring."
The Pioneers placed ahead of No. 39 SCAD Atlanta (5th, 630) and No. 44 Pikeville (6th, 632). No. 2 Reinhardt claimed the team title with a 601 (304-297), winning by six strokes.
Leading the way for SMC was freshman Evan Cheek, ranked No. 101 in the NAIA, who tied for 16th after carding back-to-back rounds of 77. In Tuesday's final round, Cheek recorded three birdies.
Junior Parker Harrigan and classmate Thomas Campbell shared 30th place after each posted 158s, with Harrigan tallying three birdies in his closing round of 79.
Junior AJ Bolin showed strong improvement on day two, cutting eight strokes off his opening round to shoot a 76 for a 160 total (84-76). Bolin also notched a birdie on the par-4, No. 5 hole.
Freshman Kendall Howle rounded out the team scoring with a 161 (81-80), highlighted by three birdies across his 36 holes.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Tucker Simon tied for 21st with a 155 (79-76), adding two birdies in the final round for a total of four in the tournament.
This event marks the conclusion of the fall season for the Pioneers.
