Late Points Push Tigers Past Pioneers in Straight Sets
Spartanburg, SC – Visiting Brenau had 44 kills and a .221 hitting percentage on its way to a 25-19, 28-26, 28-26 win over host Spartanburg Methodist College on Saturday afternoon. The tightly contested match saw the 30 tie scores and 13 lead changes.
The Pioneers (3-10, 0-2 AAC) had 43 kills and a .140 hitting percentage in the loss. Makinnley Smart led the attack with 13 kills and a .290 hitting percentage. Smart had seven of her 13 kills in the third set. Hana Vucinic added eight kills and 15 digs and Aurora Aho chipped in eight kills and 17 digs in the loss.
The Tigers (4-6, 1-1 AAC) were led by a pair of 11-kill efforts from Ashlyn Browning and Hannah Werner in the win. Werner also had 11 digs for a double double and Browning had five of her 11 kills in the opening set for Brenau. Libero Nathalia Quintero had a double double with 32 assists and 15 digs to go along with two service aces for the visitors.
Next, SMC will host Columbia International University on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Bridges Arena.
