Pioneers Sit Fourth After Opening Round at AAC Fall Showcase
ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. – In a field featuring four nationally ranked teams, the Spartanburg Methodist College men's golf team sits in sixth place after posting a 314 in the opening round of the AAC Fall Showcase.
Rainy conditions delayed play at Barnsley Resort until 12:30 p.m. and limited the event to 18 holes on Monday.
The Pioneers were led by freshmen Evan Cheek and Thomas Campbell, who each shot a 77 (+5) to share 13th place. Campbell recorded a birdie on the par-4, No. 6 hole in his opening round.
Junior Parker Harrigan followed with a 79, tying for 25th, while freshman Kendall Howle finished with an 81 to place 36th. Howle led the team with a pair of birdies. Junior AJ Bolin rounded out the SMC lineup with an 84.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Tucker Simon matched Harrigan with a 79 to also tie for 25th. Simon recorded birdies on holes No. 14 and 16.
"I'm proud of how our guys handled the weather delay and still came out focused," said SMC head coach Kevin Cotrell. "This is a strong field, and for our young group to be in the mix after the first round shows the progress, we've made this fall."
