SMC Men’s Cross Country Posts Strong Finish at Pfeiffer Invitational
Misenheimer, NC - Reigning Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week Ryan Hunter paced the Spartanburg Methodist College men's cross country team with a fourth-place finish at the Pfeiffer University Invitational on Friday.
The junior from Inman was the first non-Pfeiffer runner across the line, covering the 8k course in 26:23.6—a personal record by more than two minutes. His performance, along with the next four Pioneer finishers who placed within seven spots of one another, propelled SMC to a fourth-place team finish.
Freshman Dante Hudnall, competing in his first collegiate 8k, was the Pioneers' second finisher in 29:00.8 to place 29th overall. Just 32 seconds later, fellow newcomer Jack MacDonald crossed in 29:32.2.
Less than 10 seconds separated the next three Pioneers: Dylan Seppala (53rd, 31:46), Omarion Ocampo-Rios (55th, 31:54.8), and Steven Strange (56th, 32:00.7).
Host Pfeiffer captured the team title, led by senior Sawyer Helms, who won the race by nearly a minute in 25:17.8.
