Pioneers Snap Four-Game Losing Skid in 9-6 Win Over Toccoa Falls
The Spartanburg Methodist College baseball team snapped a four-game losing skid with a 9-6 non-conference victory over Toccoa Falls on Tuesday afternoon.
Spartanburg Methodist (5-4) was led by Blake Exizian, who finished with two hits, three runs scored, and three RBIs. Elijah Franz and Tanner Martin each added a pair of hits, while Martin and Evan Smith both drove in two runs to fuel the offense.
Toccoa Falls (6-6) also collected nine hits in the loss. Aiden Dumas led the Screaming Eagles with two hits and two runs scored, while Ryan McCarron drove in a pair.
SMC utilized 10 different pitchers in the contest. Cole Montgomery earned his first victory of the season, and the staff combined for eight strikeouts.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, scoring four runs in the first inning and two more in the second. They extended their advantage in the eighth, adding three insurance runs to take a 9-4 lead over the Screaming Eagles.
Next, SMC opens Appalachian Athletic Conference play with a three-game series against Reinhardt. The series begins with a single game at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, at Mooneyham Field.
