Spartanburg Methodist Splits Final Day at Siouxland Invitational
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Spartanburg Methodist College volleyball team split its two matches on the final day of the Siouxland Invitational on Saturday. The Pioneers earned their first win of the season with a 22-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 victory over Governors State before falling to Bismarck State by scores of 25-15, 25-19, 15-25, 25-15.
In the win over Governors State, SMC hit .236 as a team. Hana Vucinic notched a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs, while Braelynn Brewington added 11 kills on an efficient .500 hitting percentage. The Pioneers were sharp from the service line, totaling 13 aces, led by Brook Noe's five. Noe also dished out 30 assists and collected eight digs. At the net, Leilani Campbell anchored the defense with six block assists.
Against Bismarck State, the Pioneers were held to a .123 hitting percentage. Vucinic recorded her second straight double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs, while Kendall Meinders chipped in 10 kills. Noe and Tristan Craine directed the offense with 19 and 17 assists, respectively. From the service line, SMC finished with eight aces, led again by Noe's three.
SMC will now be idle until Thursday, Sept. 12, when the Pioneers travel to Carolina University in Winston-Salem, N.C., for a tripleheader. They will face Johnson & Wales (N.C.) at 11 a.m., Livingstone at 3 p.m., and host Carolina at 7 p.m.
