Mobile, Ala. - After a scoreless first half, host No. 6 University of Mobile scored three times in the second to earn a 3-0 victory over Spartanburg Methodist College on Wednesday.
SMC (0-2) goalkeeper Francesco Molinar recorded five saves. The Pioneers' first scoring opportunity came in the 22nd minute when Max Charleston's header was stopped by Rams keeper Tanner Boxberger. In the 65th minute, Michael Torres nearly put SMC on the board, but his shot was also saved.
The Rams (1-2) broke through just 2:04 into the second half as Mateo Tempone headed in a corner kick to the lower left corner of the net. Four minutes later, Jeb Scarbrough doubled the lead with a goal of his own, and Joe McMahon added a third in the 60th minute to make it 3-0.
SMC threatened again in the 88th minute, but the attack was halted by an offside call.
