Pioneers Ride Dannecker’s Complete Game to 6–3 Win at Bluefield
The Spartanburg Methodist College baseball team opened up its series against host Bluefield with a 6-3 win on Friday.
Three Pioneers (14-13) – Brady Jeffcoat, Dario Astudillo and Kohen Bridges – each had two hits as SMC pounded out 11 hits in the win.
The Rams (6-15) were held to six hits by Travis Dannecker, who tossed a complete game. Bluefield leadoff batter Jordan Ramsey had two of the six hits to lead the Rams offense.
SMC scored a run each in the second and fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. Then, the Pioneers stretched its lead to five with a three-run sixth inning. IN the inning, Elijah Franz had a RBI single and Thatcher Baughman followed that up with a two-run home run.
After the Rams scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to spoil the shutout bid, the Pioneers plated an unearned run in the top of the ninth. A sacrifice fly by the Rams in the bottom of the ninth was the final run of the contest.
The two teams will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
