The Spartanburg Methodist College baseball team swept a doubleheader and a weekend series from Truett McConnell on Saturday. After taking Friday's series opener, the Pioneers defeated the Bears 11-6 and 12-8 on Saturday.
SMC (13-12, 6-6 AAC) took the first game on the strength of a pair of home runs by Blake Exizian, while Jarian Pinckney led a 13-hit attack in the win. Exizian had three hits, three runs, and two RBI. He was one of four Pioneers—joining Matt Smith, Elijah Franz, and Pinckney—to record multiple hits.
The Pioneers scored multiple runs in four separate innings, with the biggest being a three-run third. Michael Mapes was one of three pitchers for the Pioneers and picked up the win to raise his record to 2-0.
Game two saw SMC quickly erase an early 1-0 deficit to build an 11-2 lead on its way to a 12-8 win over Truett McConnell. The Pioneers took advantage of four errors in the victory. Brady Jeffcoat had two of the Pioneers' seven hits to go along with two RBI.
SMC starter JC Murphy pitched five innings, allowing six hits and striking out two for the win, raising his record to 2-0.
Next, SMC will travel to Elizabethton, Tennessee, to face Milligan University on Tuesday, Mar. 17 at 3 p.m.
