Bio
Danny Kambel enters his third year at Spartanburg Methodist College as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Communications, bringing more than 25 years of experience in athletic communications, media relations, branding, digital storytelling and strategic communications across collegiate athletics.
Kambel oversees the athletic communications efforts for the Pioneers, including media relations, social media strategy, content creation, game operations, live statistics, photography, branding initiatives and historical archiving for Spartanburg Methodist’s athletic department. He also serves as a primary storyteller for the department, promoting the accomplishments of student-athletes, coaches and programs through written, visual and digital platforms.
Prior to joining SMC in May 2024, Kambel served as Director of Athletic Communications at The College of Idaho. During his career, he has also held leadership positions at Pacific University, LeTourneau University, University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Texas A&M University-Commerce, while also gaining experience at Florida International University, Indiana State University, Indiana University and the Naval Academy Athletic Association.
Widely respected throughout the profession for his mentorship and advocacy work, Kambel has served in leadership roles with College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), including service on the organization’s Board of Directors and as chair of the Career Services/Job Seekers Committee. He also served as editor of the CSC Job Seekers Primer and has been an active mentor for aspiring athletic communications professionals throughout the country.
Kambel’s contributions to the profession have earned multiple honors, including the CoSIDA President’s Award, the Columbus State Community College Outstanding Alumnus Award and induction into the Columbus State Sport and Exercise Studies Hall of Fame.
A graduate of University of Toledo, Kambel earned a bachelor’s degree in individualized studies after previously earning an associate degree in sport and fitness management from Columbus State Community College.
