What are you doing this summer?
The summer months are upon us and the competition for Spartanburg Methodist College athletics has nearly ended for the 2024-25 year. The summer months are a time for our student-athletes, coaches and administrators to not only spend time with their families, catch up with old friends but also to continue to do some extraordinary things.
This week, we continue the series with Maddie Handy of the Spartanburg Methodist College softball team. Handy contributed both at first base and in the circle for the Pioneers. At the plate, she recorded 25 hits, including seven doubles and 17 RBIs, and also drew 13 walks. In the circle, she made eight appearances, posting a 4-2 record with 14 strikeouts and one complete game. In the classroom, she was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.
This summer, she is working at Sissy's Sweets, a local bakery in nearby Boiling Springs that supports individuals with disabilities by providing inclusive employment opportunities. Never far from the game, she is also giving hitting and pitching lessons as part of her own business.
