The Spartanburg Methodist College volleyball team dropped a 25-23, 25-14, 25-20 decision to host Brenau University on Thursday night.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 14-17 overall, whereas Brenau raises its record to 10-11 overall in the matchup of future Appalachian Athletic Conference teams.
SMC was led by the five kills from Makinnley Smart to go along with five digs and two kills from Brantlie Price. The Tigers were able to post a .231 hitting percentage in the win, sparked by the efforts of Jomaris Maldonado and Ashlyn Browning, who had 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Browning also had 10 digs for the double double.
Next, SMC will face a familiar opponent – Life University on Friday at 6 p.m. It will be the third matchup between the Pioneers and the Eagles. The two teams have split the two meetings with Life winning on September 24 and SMC winning on its home court on September 20.
