SMC sophomore golfer from AJ Bolin wins Alice Lloyd Invitational
Cohutta, Georgia – Spartanburg Methodist College sophomore A.J. Bolin of the SMC men's golf team shot a 143 (71-72) for one-under par to win the individual championship at the Alice Lloyd Invitational in Cohutta, Georgia on Tuesday.
Bolin, who hails from nearby Gaffney, led the SMC men's golf "A" team to a share of third-place finish with his performance as they posted a team score of 616 (308-308). Tusculum took home the team title with a 602 (+26, 300-302) for a three-stroke victory over Point (Ga.). In Tuesday's final round, he carded four birdies for the one-stroke victory.
"I am proud of the team," said head coach Kevin Cotrell. "AJ Bolin had a stunning win with a 1 under par after dealing with sickness the first morning and coming back to win it. This team has worked hard despite missing time on the course due to Hurricane Helene."
Also for SMC, Preston Carr finished in a tie for 13th with a 153 (+9, 78-75), Andrew Walker shared 16th with a 156 (+12, 77-79) to put three Pioneers in the top 20. Also for Team A was Tucker Simon, who was 30thwith a 164 (+20, 82-82) and Bryson Paris, who shared 31st with a 165 (+21, 83-82).
For SMC Team "B", Antonio Montenora posted a 161 (+17, 86-75), David Harrigan with a 165 shared 31st (+21, 82-83), William Ammons tied for 37th with a 166 (+22, 81-85), Parker Harrigan was 45th with a 169 (+27, 88-81) and William Darwin was 67th with a 192 (99-93).
Individuals, Owen Jackson took 55th with a 177 (+33, 89-88) and Tristan Henne shared 63rd with a 183 (+39, 95-88).
