Entering his third season as head coach of the Spartanburg Methodist College men's and women's golf programs, Kevin Cotrell has quickly established the Pioneers as competitive programs through a commitment to player development and team success.

During the 2025-26 season, Cotrell guided the men's and women's teams to a combined four tournament championships. The men's team finished No. 62 in the final NAIA national rankings while winning the Pioneers Fall Invitational and Island Pointe Intercollegiate. Freshman Evan Cheek captured three individual tournament titles, while Thomas Campbell earned All-Appalachian Athletic Conference honors.

The women's team claimed championships at the Fincastle Intercollegiate and UPIKE Fall Invitational. Adeline Todd earned AAC Women's Golfer of the Week honors, while Isabella Marz captured medalist honors at the Fincastle Intercollegiate.

The success followed a strong debut season in 2024-25. Cotrell led the men's team to a third-place finish at the Continental Athletic Conference Championships as A.J. Bolin earned All-CAC honors and won the ALC Invitational. Lane Carr was named CAC Men's Golfer of the Week three times. On the women's side, the Pioneers finished fifth at the CAC Championships behind two CAC Women's Golfer of the Week honors from Isabella Marz.

Before arriving at Spartanburg Methodist, Cotrell built a diverse background in the golf industry as a tournament director, teaching professional, and caddie while also coaching football and lacrosse. His broad coaching experience has helped shape a player-first approach that emphasizes skill development, preparation, and success on and off the course.
