Hot Bats Continue for SMC Baseball for Fourth-Straight Win
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The hot bats carried into its midweek game for the Spartanburg Methodist College baseball team as they defeated Voorhees in a non-conference game, 18-1 in seven innings on Tuesday.
A 10-run first inning by the Pioneers set the tone as seven-different Pioneers – Elijah Franz, Jarian Pinckney, Parker Winfield, Chance Greene, Justin Dawkins, Leo Lopez and Dario Austidillo – had two hits as SMC recorded 17 hits in the win.
Not to be overlooked by the offense was the Pioneer pitching staff. Four-different pitchers allowed just three hits and struck out 10. Starting pitcher Cole Montgomery went four innings and struck out six to even his record to 1-1.
The 10 runs in the opening frame came on eight hits with Pinckney bringing in four on a pair of hits – a double and a triple. The Tigers plated their lone run in the top of the second before SMC came back two in the second and third and four in the fourth on its way to the win. 10-different Pioneers had a hit in the win.
The win extends the Pioneers win streak to four games and at 6-13 on the season as they travel to Milligan for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
