Katie Barter Named Assistant Softball Coach
Spartanburg, S.C. – Katie Barter has joined Spartanburg Methodist College as an assistant softball coach, head coach Kimberly Braxton announced today.
Barter comes to SMC after spending the past three years at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky. She brings a wide range of experience to the Pioneers, including roles as an Athletics Department Office Associate and Assistant Softball Coach. In her coaching role, she helped guide the Blue Raiders to a berth in the Mid-South Conference Tournament. Barter’s responsibilities included recruiting, practice planning, scouting reports, and overseeing strength and conditioning for the program.
She began her coaching career at her alma mater, Kentucky State University, as a graduate and volunteer assistant. At Kentucky State, she worked extensively with infielders and hitters while also overseeing the team’s strength and conditioning program.
Barter graduated from Kentucky State in 2020 with degrees in political science and psychology. She later earned two master’s degrees—one in coaching and athletic administration and another in coaching and exercise science—from Concordia University Irvine (Calif.). From 2017 to 2020, she was a four-year member of the Kentucky State softball team, appearing in 60 games for the Thorobreds. A Louisville, Kentucky, native, Barter now brings her playing and coaching experience to SMC.
