SMC Drops Doubleheader to No. 8 Georgia Gwinnett

Lawrenceville, Georgia – No. 8 Georgia Gwinnett swept a doubleheader against Spartanburg Methodist College, winning 3-1 and 11-0 (five innings) on Saturday.

In game one, the Pioneers plated their lone run on an RBI double by Adriana Stump-Frias in the fourth inning. Stump-Frias, Alex Stuckey, and Gracie Starnes each had a hit in the loss.

Georgia Gwinnett scored two runs on two hits in the bottom of the first on its way to victory. They picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth on a wild pitch by SMC. The Grizzlies were led by a pair of two-hit performances from Casey Beaver and Kayla Good.

Georgia Gwinnett starter Isabelle Teems improved her record to 4-0, allowing three hits and striking out two. Annalise Jarvis pitched the final three innings for her third save.

In the nightcap, Georgia Gwinnett scored three runs in both the first and fourth innings, adding a five-run third inning. Makenna Talcott had three hits, while Summer Hickson and Casey Beaver each recorded two hits. Beaver and Sophie Sisk each drove in two runs in the win.

Jarvis, who closed out game one, pitched a complete game in the second matchup, allowing only singles to Gracie Starnes and Maddie Handy. She struck out eight, improving her record to 12-1.

Next, the Pioneers will travel on Sunday to Anglin, Tennessee, to face Milligan in a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
