SMC Men's Basketball Earns NABC Team Academic Excellence Award
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Spartanburg Methodist College men's basketball program has been recognized for its commitment to excellence in the classroom, earning the 2025-26 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award.
The annual award recognizes men's basketball programs that achieve a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the academic year, honoring the dedication of student-athletes, coaches, and academic support staff to success beyond the court.
Spartanburg Methodist was one of 34 NAIA institutions nationwide to receive the distinction, placing the Pioneers among the nation's top academic men's basketball programs.
The Pioneers were also one of just three Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) members recognized by the NABC, joining Truett McConnell University and the University of Pikeville.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize programs from all levels of collegiate basketball that prioritize academic success while fostering the growth and development of student-athletes.
