BROOKLINE, Mass. – Washington Adventist erased an early 7-0 deficit and led for the final 32 minutes of the game on its way to an 81-69 win over the Spartanburg Methodist College men's basketball team on Friday afternoon.
The Pioneers were led by Bryan Bayonne, who had 26 points – including a 10-for-11 effort from the free-throw line. He was joined in double figures by Tavarez Lacey and DeAnthony Ross, who had 14 and 10 points, respectively.
The Shock were able to land four in double figures with 21 from Chase Cooke, who also went 10-for-11 from the charity stripe to lead WAU. Emmanuel Hylton added 15, Felix McGhee and Rande Harper had 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Cooke made a 3-pointer with 13:13 left in the contest that put WAU ahead 62-40. Bayonne and Lacey led a comeback as the Pioneers cut the deficit to six, 69-63 with 3:26 left to play. On the ensuing possession, McGhee made his third 3-pointer of the contest to spark a game-deciding 8-2 spurt for the Shock.
Next, SMC will face a Fisher squad that they defeated on Friday, January 24 by a 104-94 margin in Spartanburg on Saturday at 2 p.m.
