DENMARK, S.C. - Voorhees University overcame a two-point deficit in the fourth quarter and outscored the Spartanburg Methodist College women's basketball team by a 22-8 margin en route a 65-53 win on Saturday afternoon.
Voorhees (3-0) went on a 12-2 spurt midway through the final quarter on its way to the win. Alyssa Herder scored 20 points to lead four Lady Tigers in double figures. Kaielin Davis added 17, Nedisha Ford and Shy'Kiera Brown had 12 and 10 points, respectively.
SMC (2-4) was led by the 15-point effort from Destiny Middleton, who hit a pair of 3-pointers en route to a 5-for-8 effort from the field.
Middlleton scored five of the first seven points of the contest for the Pioneers, who started the game on a 7-2 spurt. The visitors stretched the lead to as much as 11, 15-4 when Krystal Johnson made a pair of free throws with 2:09 left in the opening quarter.
Next, SMC will take on Brewton-Parker on Monday, Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in Mt. Vernon, Georgia.
