Spartanburg Methodist College Welcomes Michael Johannes as Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach
Spartanburg, SC – Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) is excited to announce the hiring of Michael Johannes as the new Assistant Coach for the Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams. Johannes, a Seneca, South Carolina native and 2020 graduate of Bob Jones University, brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the Pioneer athletic program.
Johannes began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Bob Jones University during the 2020–2021 season. He further honed his coaching skills as an assistant track coach at High Point Academy in 2022. In addition to his coaching experience, Johannes has a strong background in the retail sector, having managed Gotta Run Spartanburg and Gotta Run Five Forks in Simpsonville, and worked as a salesperson at Gotta Run Clemson.
A dedicated student-athlete, Johannes was a member of the Bob Jones University cross country and track & field teams. He was recognized as a three-time NCCAA Scholar-Athlete and was actively involved in the Civil Air Patrol, serving as Cadet Commander of GA 506, Vice Chair of the Southeast Region’s Cadet Advisory Council, and Assistant Representative to the National Cadet Council.

Johannes expressed his excitement about joining the SMC community, stating, “I am honored to be part of the Pioneer family and look forward to working with our student-athletes to help them achieve their full potential both on and off the track.”
