SMC Men Take Second at CAC Championships
MIRAMAR, Fla. - At the 2025 Continental Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships, the Spartanburg Methodist College men took second on Monday. The Pioneers were led by Romeo Brown, who swept the 100m (10.53) and 200m (21.43). His time in the 100m was a season-best for the sprinter from Newberry.
Parker Balog won the 400m hurdles (59.57), placed second in the 400m (51.99), and finished fourth in the 100m (11.08). His time in the 400m was also a season-best. The efforts by Balog earned him the CAC Track Athlete of the Year Award.
The Pioneers swept the top three spots and had five athletes finish in the top eight in the 3000m steeplechase, with several season-best performances. Ryan Hunter led SMC with a winning time of 11:02.85, followed by Caleb Williams (11:40.23) and Dylan Seppala (11:43.74). Williams also placed second in the 1500m (4:16.96) and set a personal record in the 800m (2:03.11).
Morgan Washington earned runner-up honors in the high jump with a season-best clearance of 5-7.75 (1.72m), achieving it on his final attempt at his last two heights.
Another second-place finish in the field events came from Jared Chinloy, who recorded a leap of 19-7.5 (5.98m) on his final attempt. Teammate Javion Brannon placed third with a jump of 19-3.25 (5.87m), and Washington followed in fourth with a leap of 18-11.75 (5.78m).
Balog and Brown anchored the winning 4x100m relay, clocking a season-best time of 41.80. SMC also finished second in the 4x800m relay and third in the 4x400m relay.
SMC's Marc Mixtega was recognized as a member of the conference's Champion of Character Team.
